Violence against women in the media Sunday, Dec 27 2009

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Images of women in the mass media were under control in recent
decades. At one end of the continuum is print advertising, short, often
unique combinations of expanded text and images to sell a product. At the
the other end of pornography, sexually explicit images created in order to generate
print, television, cinema and the Internet. What is the role of power between the two
these? Women in these two forms of mass media have on several occasions
represented in subject, silenced, and evenvictimized roles.
is a much more benevolent power carry more women than
pornography. However, the average American is exposed too
sexist advertising of pornography in a given day.
In both,
Women are often not independent, but be passive and objectified.

The power of imagery is well known. That visual imagery is nonverbal, his
Messages are often multiple and contradictory (Kang, 1997). As
agent of socialization, visual imagery provided by the media can have a
powerful impact on our attitudes, values, beliefs and behaviors, because it
may contribute meanings and associations entirely apart and many
more important (ibid.). Ads are everywhere,
television, in print, on billboards and so on. However, decoding each one
see is almost impossible because the number of ads that we meet each
day.

Feminists have been concerned by the mediarepresentation
women for some time, particularly the use of their bodies. Many images
that depict women in sexual positions or to display only part of the
female body in May aid in objectifying. Women are often subject to
the male gaze, and therefore assuming heterosexuality (Duggan and Hunter
51). In addition, it is an object to the viewer's imagination. This is a
means by which power differences are created. Is there a clear
distinctionthis equation between the person who controls and who is
receipt.

Turning someone into an object not only dehumanizing, but it can lead to
justify violence (communication between the sexes). It is much easier on most
consciousness of people to hit a punching bag than a person. Images
women as objects and beneficiaries of an aggressive behavior
cause desensitization to violence (Barker 38). Despite this, very little
Violent crime is a deliberate actReplica of one in the media, not a particular
picture. Much of crimes against women spend many messages that
were sent to the media. Often these images in advertising are
idealizes the power relations between the sexes discussed earlier.

Figure 1 is an advertisement by Sisley Retrieved from http://www.about-
face.org. Sisley ads are marketed to young white
East girls of the upper class by reading fashion magazines. The first
thing thatOpinion viewer is facing the model, bearing a frightening and
frustrated expression. It is well lit in the foreground, running around with
just to glimpse the man behind it. Her hair in his face as if she
had quickly turned around to see it. The position of his body is clearly
subject held his hands behind his back and is lying on the couch.
His elbow is obstructing the view of the man's face, giving the point of view
the impression that the manintentions are unknown, we can not see
the expression on his face. Even if you do not know exactly what is
happens in this scene, a feeling of discomfort arises.

A power
control is used here to sell a name, a name that sells clothing, which is
barely visible here. This hierarchy may contribute to facilitate the collection of
women as a target of violence and aggression. This advertising
reinforces the stereotype that women can be used as objects, not only for
their bodies, but also for their willingness to use these organs in
sometimes humiliating and demeaning imagery. The look on his face,
the position of his body, and the author faceless in this
Advertising summarizes much of the concept of
the powerlessness of women as objects.

Katz writes, "reducing women to body parts for men
consumption can interfere significantly with a woman's self-respect "(qt in
Muarianne et al 250). It willfar more than men are not born
objectify women, but it is a learned behavior, mainly from images of
passive women. Maybe this lack of self-esteem exacerbates the
acceptance of these materials. There is no more widespread use of
Imaging aggressive than in the porn industry. Barron et al
considered sexual violence in print media, videos and the Internet, and
found that the Internet contains a large proportion of graphics and
antagonistsimaging. However, as violence became more intense
it contained fewer scenes (259).

Much of heterosexual pornography movement is based on
conventions of woman as object of male gaze (Duggan 54).
Duggan and Hunter's book, Sex Wars, critically examines pornography
both sides of the argument deals with the nature of the
medium term. It should be noted that my interest lies here in the violence
pornography and its effectsexclusively. The images of women in this
form of mass media are a more intense transfer print
ads discussed above. "Sexually explicit" is often
identified and treated as "violent". Critical examination of pornography
must be done with the analysis provided that the forms of socially acceptable
imaging. Those that contain nudity, non-violent and non-degrading
equipment is another discussion.

Although most of the pornography is headedtowards men, it can be
Assuming that this is due to greater intrinsic interest to the male. More
probably it is due to the extreme inclination towards the traditional industry
Male perspective. The Internet is the most often used to access
porn, with 12% of all Web sites devoted to it
(www.porndestroyswomen.org/). The effect of this form of media is
ambiguous. Donnerstein found in a study in the Journal of
Personality and SocialPsychology "that facilitate erotica
while the aggression he found in another study it inhibits it (qt Bryant
et al 289). Solving this problem is apparently the kind of
material. Violence and sexual themes to facilitate generally unpleasant
assault, while nonviolent, more tender and pleasant "soft-core"
May explicit materials hinder it (ibid.). Thus, the theme of censorship is a
hotly debated with a little research onits effects.

Themes of female subordination, bondage, sado-masochism, rape
has become increasingly prevalent in porn since the 1980s (Sapolsky). The
rape myth scenario has become commonplace. It usually presents the female
in distress, but later shows her being excited. Sapolsky also cites
research showing that men who are exposed to pornography
containing the rape of a woman finally expresses positive
reactions to rape are more likely toaccept rape myths (eg, women
secretly wanting to be raped), be sexually aroused to rape, the report of self —
possibility of committing rape, see the victim as responsible, and show
less sensitivity to rape (ibid.).

Although sado-masochism, bondage, and
Rape fantasies are generally harmless and valid means of sexual
excitement in practice, on paper, video and Internet, it dehumanizes
subject member of the sexual act.

This type of violencepornography is a clear example of power issues in
mass media. Rape is a crime control and domination. Sexualizing it
with the intent of arousal may encourage the viewer to accept this
type of violence as acceptable. Women in this kind of pornographic
materials are dehumanized to a much deeper level than
advertisements. As the author correctly http://www.porndestroyswomen.org
wrote: "You can not simultaneously objectify and dignitywomen.
Does the imagery of women in mass media objectified directly cause
violence against women? The answer is generally no.

Rape and
violence existed long before the media. The first amendment is the
most often cited reasons for not censor such materials. Most research
violent images in the media only shows a small link between the actual
violence and the media. Visual literacy is ultimately what will change the
notions of womenas passive objects.

One of the most popular acts that usually appears at the annual SOA Protests are the Chestnut Brothers. The usually rock the crowd with “Stop the Violence”, but this year (2008), they chose to perform “(Power to) The People” which is off their “RetroSoul” album. It’s a great tune with a great message. Definitely some inspiration from the O’Jays “Give the People What the Want”, which is very cool! Check out “Return to the Scene of the Crime, Volume III: The SOA Protest of 2008″ to see …

Domestic Violence – Why? Tuesday, Dec 22 2009

Image : http://www.flickr.com

This is about domestic violence. I would say that I am writing about how things have changed since I got out of journalism school, but unfortunately that is not true.

After attending a re-broadcast of a documentary, I remembered my early career in radio broadcasting and public affairs programs that I had done on alcoholics who abuse their families while drunk and another on women who have escaped to a shelter Way.

Carolyn Thomas is a woman who woundlose 2 / 3 's of her face when her boyfriend came to live in the house drunk and killed his mother and then shot Carolyn so that the bullet shattered his right eye, tore off his nose and upper jaw. Somehow she survived but it took her and her medical team of more than 2 years, a half-dozen major firms reconstruction and several grueling sessions of various spirits in his dentures back together. Carolyn goal was to "stop being someone people are afraid of becoming someone and they can see thatto be a survivor.

And she is a survivor today, she speaks, when and where it is on the importance of helping women to leave abusive companions and his horrible ordeal.

During the first radio station I worked at in Bakersfield, CA I interviewed a woman who, after drinking with her husband, has suffered years of verbal abuse. Fortunately, she found Alanon and helped to leave and start his life over before the abuse turned physical. She credited her ability to go out and havehis own recovery from his personal faith and the wonderful counselors to Alanon.

Coming from a home that was loving and caring, it was difficult for me to imagine anyone staying in a relationship like this, but after speaking with the counselor Alanon I could understand how someone who is more Larger, more powerful and your financial support could beat your self esteem to this level.

After the documentary, I discussed this subject with my parents. My mother remarked that her fatherwas indeed an excellent example of a verbal abuser. We all had ourselves separated from the mother of my father for the same reason. So even if I had ever been physically affected by one, I too have been as much victims of their terrible treatment.

A year later, I moved a large market station of the radio (it was outside of Los Angeles). During my reign as a newscaster and public affairs afternoon person I decided to produce a documentary on women who not only escaped, butthey can overcome the violence. I contacted the United Way, who ran a shelter for local women. The lead advisor and three women agreed to do the show. All had children, all had broken bones and broken ego. They had been away for two months. We had completed the program, has divorced her husband and had not only found jobs, but has rented an apartment. She looked strong and determined to succeed in raising his 2 children with love, non-violent homes. One of the other womenwas afraid of being alone with her children. As she was not married to her abuser, the United Way have tried to move her and her children and extending his stay to try to give a better sense of confidence. The third woman sounded as if she did not. Really. The adviser said that at this point in the program, they saw a 50% rate of success. She was not content with that, but he admitted that more often than not most women returned to theirabusive peers in the 6 months after leaving the shelter.

Hopefully this has changed since I did it show in 1980.

Several years later, now that I was a stay-at-home mother of two children and we were preparing to move. As usual the cleaning began. When I realized that all the baby clothes and toddler that I had (and in excellent condition), toys that my children had exceeded even our high chair, a bed and a couple of car seats, I knew exactly what to do.

I had Sarah and Adam to help clean, sort and safeeverything. Then I called my local United Way and asked where I could make a donation to the shelter closest to. To my surprise, they gave me directions to the actual domicile. I called and asked when the best time would be. Councilor sprung his appreciation and stated: "Please, our residents can use anything and everything, now would be too early?"

I put my kids in the car with our boxes. While driving I explained about where we were and why he was their former werethings to the greater good. They could not imagine dads who hurt little children or mothers affected. They were a little frightened. They were about to turn 5 and 7. I told them that it was generally called a "safe place" and it was a secret to keep all mothers, children and aid without having to worry about.

When I parked, several women greeted us and kept thanking us for everything we did. They helped us bring in all the "goodies". They were amazed that we give so much.

At this moment Ireally wish I had been able to give more.

Reducing violence against women by 90% in 30 days Monday, Dec 21 2009

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Sometimes when I hear stories of some new, I wonder how we are on real issues that concern the "other". Take the issue of violence against women is now featured in radio and television talk-about show, where real or fake like people can pass behind serious issues. I watch "imitation actors / actresses of" Parade of the issue before the cameras as they compete for an Oscar. My humble opinion is that if we are really serious about eliminating> Violence against women, we must go to the main root.

Movies used to hire character-types: burly, spiritually and psychologically – men disrupted play for the roles of women killers: not today. Over 90% of the scripts now have the baker, the executive, the taxi driver, and even the butler of selling the idea that it is OK to beat the only person in this entire universe that can handle "our pieces of confused masses" called carnal men.

For us men, if our money did not followcorrectly, we need some glasses. If the stock market takes a beating on the chain smoking, kick our dogs, drink a little brandy glass — all — and these things still leave, we feel unfulfilled. Enter the package wrapped in tenderness, psychologist, mother, friend, counselor, tension – damper, and with just a touch of sweetness, while we dissipate Mount Vesuvius. It can bring soothing, comfort, understanding, healing, discussion, and love in so many ways — some by things as simple ascombing hair. Most of the time its main application is to spend more quality time with her — listen, understand and remember that sometimes she wants to "know" they can come to us in moments of overwhelming. IT IS NOT A One Way Street. Yes, the world can not do without us — we preach to all those stupid enough to believe our ego-induced mess, but "the reality is – the world will continue, with or without us.

I'm going to anger some of my friends with the remarks that follow, but I do not care. A woman is so beautiful, and its magnetic attraction is so powerful that "the angels left their heavenly abode 'in the pursuit of beauty and grace. Of all the" zillions "of created beings on earth, God chosen to provide the greatest gift to the people astray. I can state as fact, because in 1998, while in Israel, I had a supernatural experience the most spectacular in the Cenacle. "This experience I can pray away the "curse" of poverty on thousands of healingfor people with AIDS, sickle cell disease and other so-called incurable diseases – with results, and without soliciting money for a gift of God. In addition, "it may NOT U.S., BUT WE CAN NOT DO without her and her ARTTRIBUTES much. Go ahead, rip my invitations holiday; burn my gift – I do not: it is the truth.

Question for the first Men:

Do not look so surprised that I would include a question on the forum for men ladies. So you think I am the only man who examinesLadies forum? You might be surprised to know that there are more men interested readers to your son that you can not even imagine. It's a Man thing: the "excessive". My brothers: Why in heaven's name do you look at the so-called anal movies in the early morning hours, when not only corrupts those things with our duvets fully absorb, but adding the gory details after too? You think it's kinky? Think again. As a professional "demon-caster Outer" — fancy name for"Exorcist" or minister deliverance evil spirits — depend on two types of spiritual food to strengthen:

1. Bloodshed, in any form ritual – a violation of Torah laws.

2. Semen spilled on the altars of disobedience.

If you invite spirits enough desire, murder and kinkiness in your house through the windows of your eyes, it might not take long for these spirits to unlock the door to your "holy of holies "to enable the army of adultery or violence todestroy your marriage. Many men who have been "brain-watching 'watching these will eventually commit such.

Bigger Question: men voluntarily lobby for the elimination of violence the primary source or a recruiting center? NO and I'll explain why later in this article. I must take this opportunity to say and show by example. "Before I am delivered and matured in the fullness of understanding that we must look for compatibility in mind first (known personality), I,Like most men used physical and emotional techniques of persuasion that I'm ashamed now. Judging by stories I heard in my previous clubs, many of my friends are in similar situations. You can sow remorse in saying in actions that speak louder than words. We can begin to encourage other men to boycott all movies that include violence against women, but disaster, and war-related, where losses are not discriminatory. We must cut off the feet of the financial— Authors openly, not in silence.

Question for the ladies:

As a former owner of a nightclub, I am enrolled in the "Men's Hall of Fame Club Confidential." The barbers, bartenders and psychiatrists do not qualify for membership. Men are allowed to bare their wounds, pain, frustrations and insecurities in ourselves. Sorry: talk show hosts are not eligible, since many will stage and dramatize their plight to the public. As a specialist experienced in consideration, because I am not allowed toreveal the reasons men will not support my proposal – unless women begin the first drive, and then we'll jump on the bandwagon.

To my surprise, I wrote a very popular hostess talkshow with these proposals. It is possible that a male staff member did not like the proposal, or perhaps it is estimated that the ratings for his show could be affected, or simply that they have e-mail in their junk mail folder. But did you know that if you have a successful book and you sign your namea letter that supports or conducts a controversial issue, it is impossible to delete the item longer? Well, that's the idea behind this article.

HIT THE GUILTY where it hurts:

The film industry is an industry of one billion dollars. 70% of viewers are women. Ladies: Each film subliminally sells the idea that it's OK to hurt women. Why did you pay to see women-haters you stalk, maim you, disrespect you, and worse yet — you agree with deafening silence youworthy of such abuse? He learned to start with your refusal to submit any film that depicts domestic or "recreational violence" against women. Then you should forbid your children to support such crap. For women married you remember Aristophanes' play Lysistrata? Remember how Greek women (around -410) got their men to stop fighting? They were tired of their men went to war and the return wounded or dead. So they closed honeyplant.

Television is more difficult to hurt, but remember that only a small number of films made specifically for television. The strategy for television should be different. Television depends on ratings. Sponsors spend money only on shows that are highly rated. If people do not watch a program, sponsors will not advertise on it. Got the picture? Begin to mobilize all the women in your workplace, your clubs in your gyms in your organizations and your political movementwill spread.

POLITICIANS hate being left out:

The politicians will not jump on this bandwagon immediately. Hollywood is one of the largest contributors to political campaigns. " However, once your campaign begins to make headlines, slippage: they will jump on board as refugees "grasshopping 'the last ship escape. Because we love to imitate what we see in movies and television, if we put something good in motion, guaranteed: in 30 days, we begin to see majorchanges:

1. The message that this is not OK to start ringing on media houses and valleys echo.

2. Once you begin to touch the bottom line Corporate America, changes must take place.

3. It does not take long for the ears laws to point in that direction.

November is specifically reserved to call for the cessation of violence against women. Let us do more than talk and send audio clips.

Basil C. Hill, radio host and VP of the UNIA AntiguaChapter, a trumpet frank in the war against poverty, offers these encouraging words: "I decided to add my voice to any instrument that band together to stop violence: emotional, physical and sexual violence against women."

Violence at Work – Stay focused on what is important for Self Defense Sunday, Dec 20 2009

Image : http://www.flickr.com

In the field of workplace violence policy, there is a problem that is both prevent companies and their employees to be strong, causing policies and procedures to miss the mark and causing damage, financial loss or loss of life.

What I mean is that managers and administrators to focus most of their time either in denial about the problem of workplace violence or the opportunity to perform in their business, or creation of morerelated to the prevention and reporting policies. Meanwhile, they create or, more precisely, "to" a gap to exist within their violence in the workplace and an overall plan for crisis management which leaves employees and the company as a whole not at all prepared for the actual physical violence.

If you've been able to avoid or survive a real act of violence, you must first accept that violence exists and can affect you. Living indenial or illusion that you're somehow invisible or insensible to danger – you're the only exception in the whole human race that can not or will not be targeted by another human being irrational or other natural disaster did you leave paralyzed in fear when something happens. This first phase of an 8-phase overall strategic approach to security and self-protection that I teach my clients is called the general awareness.

In this phase, we consider not only the fact that the dangerexists, but the forms it can take and the types of attackers, you may encounter. This information lets you find exactly the types of training self-defense tactics and techniques that work to de-escalate, escape or defend against an attack if and when it comes to you. Remember, violence is random. It can happen in any business, and at any time. And when that happens, you're either prepared or not.

But I digress. The information we collect inthe "general awareness" phase of our plan is absolutely useless in the moment of attack. Because the brutality in the moment in pure, unadulterated and uncivilized are thrown on you, the only thing that counts is quick, decisive and action planned. This is true in emergency situations where health professionals are trying to save lives. It is true that when a company has a crisis where huge amounts of money are lost and the future of the company in question. And it's true when youare face to face with a violent aggressor, trying to fight break or kill you for the work!

This type of thinking – "why is this happening?" and "why this person do that?" mentality, instead of acting is not what is important during an attack. It reminds me of an old story of a soldier who was shot with an arrow. Before he let anyone take the arrow out of him, he wanted to know the name and family of the archer who shot him, the type and materials on the arrowwas made of bird feathers come the poison that was tipped with, etc., before they can answer all his questions – he died of his injuries.

Overthinking too much and not enough action based on knowledge and experience will do nothing to help you and everyone you are responsible to avoid or survive a real attack against workplace violence. And do not forget that no amount of whining, blame, or punishment for the attacker could remove the pain, loss, or that you just were not ready when you need to be. Therefore there are 8 phases of a plan or an effective formula to develop the missing part of most plans, workplace violence – the part that deals with the keyword in your plan – the violence!

If you do not have the knowledge and experience necessary to bring this critical life-saving item in your plan and existing procedures (do not worry, most managers and directors are not), your first step isfind someone who does. And remember, you're not limited to choosing between "Gung-Ho karate masters or types of ex-military commandos, or the other extreme of the consultant liabilities that have no experience in dealing with violence.

To be sure, you and your employees do not have a training program that will turn you into martial arts black belts. You do not train for years to master. There are programs and trainers out there who can give you the content you need, and in the context of your business needs. You can get self-defense training to be able to protect yourself during an attack of violence at work – training that is both easy to learn and effective, as well being aware that the responsibility and allows your managers and employees provide the professionalism and concern throughout the incident.

Do you want to learn more about how I do it? I just finished a report of all new to survive in the workplace> Terrorist violence, entitled, "Attack-Proof Your Facility

The effects of domestic violence – an uncertain future Friday, Dec 18 2009

Image : http://www.flickr.com

One of the effects of domestic violence is illustrated in studies by organizations like the Coalition for Battered Women. We believe that when a woman tries to leave a violent relationship, the risk to its sixty-ten by a surprising increase of five per cent.

Why? As stated by Executive Director of the Coalition Barbara Price, "It lost power and control, and that's what it is." This means that the abuser will do anything to retrieve it or any How to ensure that nothe resumes. Very directly and specifically refers to the victim.

It is not surprising that many victims of domestic violence choose to stay in the relationship rather than leave. The attacker told them repeatedly what would happen to them and gave them too many examples of real stress. It goes without saying that after so that victim numbers, the situation is now better than they could cope.

It is a powerful motivator to stay where youare. Yet there is one other than when used in conjunction with physical aggression of the victim retains domestic violence background check. And this is to tell them that there is no way they could never do in the real world.

When it comes to the effects of domestic violence, verbal abuse in the hands of an expert manipulator is very powerful. They have gotten your attention by physically assault you now something they need to ensure that the door remainslocked and you do not want or desire to leave.

This is where the verbal abuse comes in. It is not only constant looting of the victim (although it works well too) but also to create a world where the victim becomes totally dependent on the abuser .

They said a constant drumbeat that this is not possible for them to function as a responsible adult, without the abuser present to hold their hand and guide them every step of the road. The everElimination of Violence destroys self-esteem of victims to a level where they can not help believing. Even a strong person mentally and emotionally can only do so much. The attacker takes to breaking point and beyond.

And much of it can set the day of the minor activities of the day. If you find abuse, for example because you are not a special circumstance in a timely manner then how do you want to work in the real world alone?

Of courseIt makes no sense. The majority of victims of domestic violence was doing very well for themselves before they meet their abuser. Without doubt, with the support that is there they will do Alright Again when they leave the relationship.

There are many effects of domestic violence, but the fact that many victims do not leave and are quite adamant about this tells you how horribly success this type of manipulation can be.
